Another Year, Another School.

Mrs. Hoevelman is off to yet another adventure. In the quest to find a school home, I have landed at Whitcomb Elementary in Clear Creek ISD. After ten amazing years in Houston ISD, I have changed districts and schools. I’ll be graduating with my Masters of Educational Leadership in December and I am thrilled to grow some roots in my new school home. Be on the look out for updates throughout the year. I promise I’ll try to get better at updating! Take a look at my new temporary space. Next year, Whitcomb will be opening a brand new fine arts and science wing. We will have a new building and even more new memories to make!

New Year, New School…

welcome classroom

The 2020-2021 school year was the year that none of us expected, and with new experiences (hello, virtual teaching), new adventures await!

The 2021-2022 school year will be a big one for me (Mrs. Hoevelman), Herod Elementary, and West University Elementary. After six beautiful years at Herod Elementary, I am moving to a new school with new students. West University Elementary has nearly 1300 students, and a very extensive enrichment schedule. I am excited to join this team and spread my love of music to all of my new students. I’m ready for the challenge, and I can’t wait to get started. My Herod family will welcome their new music teacher, and my students will continue to enjoy music weekly. It’s time for all of us to spread our wings, and enjoy the ride life has in store for us. Herod Elementary will always have my heart and my time spent with the faculty, students, parents, and community will always be a precious memory.

West U, get ready, we are going to have a fantastic year!

Mid-Year Update

It has always been difficult to keep things updated throughout the year, but it is especially difficult this school year with the hybrid learning. We started this year with a post saying everything was different in 2020, which was a huge understatement, and this year seems to be continuing in the same fashion. We miss our students in our rooms, and for Music Class, we very much miss making music through singing and playing instruments. Unfortunately, this update brings much of the same. We will continue to have general music lessons with minimal singing and no shared instruments, but we will continue to be creative and find new ways to experience music.

In December students created their own Grooves and Compositions using Quaver Creatives. While our younger students explored the instruments of the orchestra through Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.

This is a different year for sure, but we are absolutely #HerodStrong! Our Herod Jets are musicians and rocking it every single day! We are just counting the days until we can perform again!

Everything is Different in 2020…

My website has gotten a bit of a facelift! Many things are changing with instruction, so be sure to look for new details that will be coming in the next few weeks. I will post them at http://www.mrshoevelmansmusicclass.com as we get more information from the district. For right now, I will be updating all the site pages and getting my virtual classroom set up for distance learning! Get ready!

December Updates!

It’s been a busy December so far! The Herod Modern Band had a fantastic performance at the City of Bellaire’s Holiday in the Park! Check out our performances on YouTube or on our Twitter or Instagram. They did a fantastic job and I am so so proud of them!

We have two more big performances left for 2019! On Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 6 PM in the Herod Elementary Multi-Purpose Room, the Modern Band (the Jetstreams) will present a preview of songs for their Winter Preview with some very special guests! The Jetstreams will be joined by the Jazzy Jets for their dance performance! The Jetstreams are hosting a Cookie Intermission in between performances!

November 2019 Update!

Parent’s and Friends,

It’s been a fantastic start to our year with two major programs under our belts! The First Graders put on a fabulous Rock Around the 50’s Program, celebrating the first 50 days of school. The Fourth Graders celebrated our United States Veteran’s with their American Voices program! I am so proud of everyone!

Soon our Second Graders will bring you Flakes! A Winter Musical December 13th at 1:30 PM! They are hard at work with their parts and songs (practice here) On top of all of that the Herod Elementary Modern Band will be performing at the City of Bellaire’s Holiday in the Park December 5th at 6PM, and here at Herod for their Fall Preview on December 12th at 6 PM. It’s going to be a great way to end 2019!

Thank you for all your support this year, it’s been a busy one! Enjoy Quaver’s Song of the Month, since today is WORLD KINDNESS DAY!

What’s New?!

We are up and running now that we are almost in October!

First, this week both First Grade and Fourth Grade began working on their programs. First Grade will be presenting a 50th Day of School Program called Rock Around the 50’s! Their program will be November 1, 2019 at 1:30 PM. Please check out the details (still in the works) here! Fourth Grade will be presenting their Veteran’s Day Program called American Voices! I will post details once there are determined! The Herod Elementary Veteran’s Day Program will be on November 8, 2019 at 9AM.

Next, our first Modern Band Rehearsal of the year is tomorrow (9/26) after a non-start with last week’s Imelda Storm. We are excited to get up and running with our new group of students! We have task ourselves with learning a Modern Band Arrangement for You-Nique!

Third, I wanted to give a most heartfelt THANK YOU to our parents who have graciously gifted our music program with much needed items. We have received a guitar pick punch, laminator, laminator sheets, decorations, tape for our stage, and a very cool electric drum kit. We are so thankful to have the use of these items! If you are interested in donating to our music room, please visit our Amazon Wish List!

Finally, I hope you enjoy October’s Song of the Month from Quaver!
